Passionate since childhood about technology and naturally curious, Giulio took his first steps in the world of computer science on his own. His career as a programmer took a sharp turn when he finished high school and joined the faculty of computer science at the University of Florence.
There, he discovered Linux and the Open Source world. As his knowledge of programming increased, he began to study the first web frameworks written in Java choosing, whenever possible, to use PostgreSQL as database.
He initially started working as a web designer / PHP programmer, and later as a frontend/backend developer. Giulio began to work for 2ndQuadrant Italia in 2011 developing Python applications to support migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL and is part of the Barman development team.
Besides his work with the Barman team, Giulio helps customers as PostgreSQL support engineer, works with Jenkins as Continuous Delivery Architect, and is one of the men behind the 2ndQuadrant packages for Linux distributions.
Giulio lives in Florence and when he is not behind his keyboard writing code he loves to cook, listen to music and, when possible, perform as DJ.
Presentation: From 0 to 100: Business continuity with PostgreSQL
A journey through the infinite combinations of processes and architectures that PostgreSQL
and its open source ecosystem provide within disaster recovery and high availability to help
you achieve peace of mind. Starting from zero
Workshop Title: Backup and Disaster Recovery of PostgreSQL databases
The workshop will cover basic installation of PostgreSQL on a Linux system, installation of
Barman (Backup & Recovery Manager) on a second Linux system and setup of continuous
backup. Then, setup of a third Linux system for remote recovery. Extras: monitoring,
replication, synchronous replication, geographical redundancy, hook scripts.
